Darkness into Light is an annual fundraising event in support of suicide prevention.
In 2009, in Dublin, Ireland, 400 people set off on the inaugural Darkness Into Light 5km walk to raise funds for an Irish suicide prevention centre called Pieta. Today, the walk has grown internationally with local walks raising funds for local crisis intervention and suicide prevention centres.
This year, the local Vancouver walk and fundraising event will be supporting the Crisis Centre of BC.
Darkness into Light Walk
The annual Darkness Into Light fundraiser is a walk that will take place on May 7 and comprises of a 5KM walk or run that starts around 4:45 AM at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club.
The aim is to walk from darkness into sunrise while remembering those around us who have lost their battle to suicide. The walk ending as dawn breaks is a fitting testament to show that there is always light. Darkness into Light takes place over 14 different countries starting in New Zealand and finishing up right here in British Columbia
The walk has become a global movement of people joining together to be the light in the dark.
