Join the Crisis Centre team at this year’s Darkness Into Light walk on May 6th!
Darkness Into Light is an annual walk that brings hope to people who have been impacted by suicide and brings awareness to the global fight against suicide and self-harm, while raising funds for suicide prevention organizations.
The event began in 2009, when 400 people in Dublin, Ireland, set off on the inaugural Darkness Into Light 5km walk to raise funds for an Irish suicide prevention centre called Pieta House; a not-for-profit organization that provides services to people who are in suicidal distress, those who engage in self-harm, and those bereaved by suicide.
The Irish diaspora communities across the world gather every year to continue the tradition to support Pieta and their local crisis centres. Now, there are over 200 official walks for Darkness Into Light across 15 countries spanning 5 continents, starting in New Zealand and finishing right here in British Columbia. This year, the local Vancouver walk and fundraising event will be supporting the Crisis Centre of BC.
Darkness Into Light 2023
The 2023 Darkness Into Light 5km walk and fundraiser will take place on Saturday, May 6th, starting at 4:15 AM at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club.
The aim is to walk from darkness into sunrise while remembering those who have lost their lives to suicide and giving hope to those who have been affected by self-harm and suicide. The walk ending as dawn breaks is a fitting testament to show that there is always light at the end of even the darkest times.
Join us on May 6th to help build hope and community for those who have lost loved ones to suicide:
