The cost of one call: Giving Tuesday 2021

Posted by & filed under News.

Did you know that the average cost for us to answer a call made to 1800SUICIDE is roughly the same as the cost of one dinner in Metro Vancouver?

One call costs the Crisis Centre of BC approximately $26.69

Every time we answer a call at the Centre, we increase the well-being of the caller and decrease the chance of needing other services like police, ambulance, or an emergency room visit. We are able to de-escalate 99.5% of all calls without the need for emergency services or police intervention.

Crisis responders are highly trained to provide the appropriate support while being flexible enough to cover the full spectrum of crisis support, suicide intervention, and acute mental health.

The cost of every call is covered primarily by donations and grants, and we together save British Columbian taxpayers approximately $10.4 million in health dollars saved and over $47 million in police attendance, plus significantly reduce stress on police and hospital services during a pandemic

Turn one restaurant dinner a month into a life-saving call – become a monthly donor.

Giving Tuesday is November 30, and our goal is for 10 of our donors to become new monthly donors. We hope you will be one of them.

Thank you for your generous support.
